At long last, after a one month hiatus (definitely sounds better than slacking), I'm back with at least this posting. When I signed in, I was finally forced to embrace the new Blogger. It's good to know they've at least taken the beta out of it. The only issue now is I’ve to type everything in freaking html. So much for improvement.
I'm not going to recount my going-ons the past month here, simply because I can't remember. When I met up with Shahrin the day before, in the course of our conversation, he informed me we haven't met for more than a month and I didn't even realised such length of time has passed me by. And when I met up with Jane earlier this week (last week?), we realised we've know each other for 6 years. 4 more years and it's a decade. Cripes! I'm even stepping into my late twenties now!
Well, there's really nothing I can do about this unless I manage to dig up the Fountain of Youth at my void deck. It just makes me wonder yet again why am I slogging my lifetime away at work when I should be doing something I want to do. The answer continues to be something called money.
Money happened to be something I don't have a lot of, but it's something my friends are determined to take away from me. Like the day before, when I met up with SYJ trio again, they brought me up to Emily Hill to be butchered. Nothing as horrific as literally butchered of course, just financially.
Actually it’s nice of them to bring me out of my little village in the industrial West to see the world once in a while. Especially convenience counts when Ying has something as reliable as her WJJ, compared to my Bus 11 which will only clock in extra work when overseas.
The food (those tried) at Wild Rocket weren’t to the extent of fabulous, but they were good. The highlight undeniably had to be the dessert I ordered – Dark Chocolate gateau. That was about when June showed up. Good tactic. Next time I’ll try being late so I won’t be incline to spend on starter all the way to dessert.
The next night was another money draining session. Jane’s back from Taiwan with her boyfriend, Piero, in tow for the CNY period. So she organised a dinner gathering and of all places, she chose Indochine at ACM.
With two relatively high priced dinners on back to back nights, I would have just pretended I didn’t receive the message. However, I couldn’t do that to Jane. Especially when it was the only opportunity I had to meet Piero and dish out all the deep, dark, dirty secrets of hers.
Knowing Jane, I was purposefully late. In the end, she still managed to have us all moon-tanning and crunching on lao hong crackers Indochine served (like cardboard crunchy, probably their new in-house specialty) before she came sashaying in.
Food at Indochine is grossly overpriced in my opinion. At the suggestion of the waiter who said the proportion of food is big (and the astounding pricing), we order two sets of four dishes to share. When the food arrived and was shared, I thought I was having French cuisine. I’m talking about the miniscule morsels of food I get to stuff into my mouth, not the taste. I believed the rest got past by taking in more rice. Thank goodness for the carrot cake I had later at Coffee Bean.
When the bill came, we all thought Jane was going to pay. After all, as she famously put it when she acknowledged the expensive prices, she’s only back once a year. So at the per person cost, she’s only investing approximately two dollar per friend per month. Sadly, she rejected the concept and I would be surprised if the sound of our collective sighs didn’t reach the ears of the part goers at the Chingay Parade in Orchard road.
After Jane and Piero left, the rest of us proceeded to Settler’s Café for some good old board game fun. I never thought of this before, but the concept of playing board games together is good, especially when you’ve run out of topics to talk about and run the risk of staring a buzzing fly to death. By playing board games, you’ll still be in each other’s company and enjoy it. Cool.
Luckily for me, for this month there is a little trickle of additional monetary in-flow so it kind of balances out my financial aspect a bit. Whew.
